Meet Simon and Melvin, our North American raccoons who have been with us since the fall of 2020. Simon and Melvin arrived together, and although they are not biologically related, they have been together since they were young. 

Simon

Simon came to Keepers of the Wild after being attacked by a dog as a kit, resulting in neurological damage and a clipped ear. If you spot Simon at the Wildlife Center, you will notice he sometimes spins around in circles. This can be when he is excited, when his keepers are in the enclosure, or when he is playing with Melvin.

Melvin was orphaned as a kit and has been raised by humans since. Because of this, he relies on people and does not know how to properly hunt and forage for food, making him non-releasable. On your visit to the wildlife center, you might catch a glimpse of Simon and Melvin playing together or participating in one of their daily enrichment activities!
