  • Color Display Gardener

    • Location: Charleston

    Magnolia Plantation & Gardens, one of the nation’s oldest and most frequented historical public gardens, is looking for a new Color Display Gardener. This role maintains the color aspects of the garden as it relates to annual, perennial, and shrub color and maintains the vegetable, herb and cut flower garden. The Color Display Gardener supports all color displays such as planting beds, containers, hanging baskets, and special displays.

    What you will be doing:

    • Monitor and maintain all existing color displays to include planting, weeding, watering, pruning, grooming, staking, pinning, vine removal, and identifying insect pest and disease problems for treatment
    • Collaborate with the Color Display Manager throughout the year to define directions in the future color displays
    • Work closely with volunteers as it relates to the color display function
    • Collaborate with the Color Display Manager on visioning and development of the landscape gardens
    • Promotes the Garden’s activities as it relates to the color display function
    • Performs all other duties as requested or assigned as needed

    Requirements

    Who you are:

    • You have an Associates or Bachelors degree in Horticulture or similar field and 1-3+ years’ experience in horticulture/gardening/nature management. Experience within a public garden a plus!
    • You’re passionate about horticulture and have an in-depth knowledge of horticultural best practices, plants, and garden maintenance using horticultural disciplines
    • You are a year-round gardener and have the ability to work in all seasons and weather conditions to perform activity related to planting and care
    • You have a valid driver’s license to drive and operate necessary equipment and have the ability to do the following: lift 20-50lbs on a regular basis, stand and/or kneel for long periods of time to perform gardening tasks, and climb a 12’ ladder to perform tasks as needed

    Magnolia Plantation & Gardens, one of the nation’s oldest and most frequented historical public attractions, is looking to add a Facilities Maintenance Technician to our team! Due to the growth within the company, the Facilities Maintenance Technician will support the changes and renovations on property. This individual is responsible for the maintenance of all building equipment to ensure it remains in optimal working condition. This includes HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, climate control, roofing systems, ground support equipment and maintenance/cleaning equipment. This is a full-time position with benefits.

    What you will be doing:

    • Complete all maintenance and repair tasks as directed by Facilities and Operations management
    • Adhere to safety, health and environmental policies and proceduresAnswer and respond to emergencies and maintenance calls

  • Facilities Support Services Associate

Due to the growth within the company, this role will provide essential facilities support to various departments by accomplishing tasks such as mail delivery, moving furniture, trash pick-up, and more. This individual plays a crucial role at our company and offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that thrives on a culture of deep mutual respect and accountability. The Facilities Support Services Technician is dedicated to supporting our team members and enhancing the experience of the guests we serve. This is a full-time position that includes benefits, providing stability and a chance to grow with us.     What you will be doing:

    • Responsible for providing a safe and exceptional transportation experience aboard an 8-passenger golf cart, ensuring guests are seamlessly ushered to their next Magnolia Plantation & Gardens destination
    • Complete all maintenance and repair tasks as directed by Facilities and management; including but is not limited to changing light fixtures and bulbs, utilizing a wet vacuum to remove water from flooded areas, etc.
    • Tend to all outside trash and recycling receptacles on property which are to be checked and emptied a minimum of 3x a day (morning, mid-day, & afternoon). During high volume & events, the trash bins in the main areas will need to be checked every few hours 
    • Conduct a full sweep of the entire property and remove any trash and debris laying on the ground, parking lots, around trash bins, on tables, along the train road, etc. twice a day (morning/afternoon) or as needed
    • Responsible for pressure washing including the café seating area, pavilion tram depot, gates, buildings, golf carts, etc. 
    • Supports special events and company meetings by setting up and breaking down tables and chairs, speakers, projection equipment, televisions, extension cords, generators, decorations, and supplying additional trash cans and returning the bins at the completion of the event, etc.
    • Manages the on-site parking by controlling the flow of traffic, direct parking during peak times or events
    • Delivers mail, packages and supplies to designated departments
    • Adhere to safety, health and environmental policies and procedures
    • Represents a team-player spirit when assigned other duties as required

    Magnolia Plantation & Gardens, one of the oldest historical gardens in the US, is looking for a new Tour Experience Associate to represent our amazing tour offerings; including, Nature Train & Boat Tours, Slavery to Freedom Tour, Audubon Swamp Garden Tour, etc. Tour Guides at MPC are responsible for crafting a positive, educational experience for our visitors through historical, accurate, engaging storytelling.

    • Immersing yourself in the culture and history of Magnolia Plantation & Gardens, working closely with MPC’s Historian to ensure accuracy in the content delivery of the tour narrative; your thorough knowledge of the property and its history will help you craft an experience unique to each group’s specific interests
    • Present tour narrative in an engaging way, with appropriate tones for the content; describe points of interest at Magnolia that relate to the tour; answer questions and facilitate discussions as appropriate
    • Ensure the safety of the group while on tour, being mindful of the surroundings and visitor activities
    • Works closely with other Tour Guides to ensure that facts, dates, and anecdotes about the history and horticulture of the property are accurate and streamlined across all tours

    Requirements

    Who you are:

    • You have 3+ years’ experience in a people-facing, public speaking role. Previous experience as a Tour Guide and boating experience is preferred but not necessary!

  • Tour Experience Lead

    The Tour Experience Lead is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of all tours at Magnolia Plantation & Gardens. This role ensures that all tours provide exceptional experiences for visitors, aligning with the organization’s mission, vision, and values. This position will work closely with guides, staff and other departments to optimize guest satisfaction, streamline operations, and ensure safety and educational integrity. 

    What you will be doing:

    • Manage and coordinate the daily operations of all tours, ensuring a seamless and exceptional guest experience, including managing schedules and supporting professional development.
    • Immerse yourself in the culture and history of Magnolia Plantation & Gardens, working closely  with MPC’s Director of Interpretation to ensure accuracy in the content delivery of the tour narrative; your thorough knowledge of the property and its history will help you craft an experience unique to  each group’s specific interests. 
    • Present tour narrative in an engaging way, with appropriate tones for the content; describe  points of interest at Magnolia that relate to the tour; answer questions and facilitate discussions  as appropriate. 
    • Acts as the on-site liaison for Magnolia’s Group Tours, managing daily schedules and tour inventory within the MPC ticketing system. Greets and facilitates group tour orientations, ensures groups arrive on time for their scheduled tours, and serves as the transport driver when needed. Collaborates with Visitor Experience teams to coordinate event add-ons and manages on-site tour changes as required.
    • Act as the main point of contact for all tour-related inquiries, addressing guest feedback, concerns, and complaints in a timely and professional manner. 
    • Demonstrate a team-oriented attitude when taking on additional responsibilities as assigned.

    Requirements

    • You have 5+ years’ experience in an Operations role, with 3+ years’ experience in a public facing position. Previous experience leading a Tour Guide team is a plus!
    • You’re passionate about American history, are an engaging storyteller, and your verbal communication skills are on-point.

    Magnolia Plantation & Gardens, one of the nation’s oldest and most frequented historical public gardens, is looking for a new Wetlands Technician for the on-site team. This role will assist the Ecologist in managing multiple wetland units in an effort to improve carrying capacity by increasing the amount and availability of food and cover plants to be more attractive to resident and migratory wildlife species.

    What you will be doing:

    • Assisting in moist soil management activities across the property’s wetland units
    • Identifying, monitoring, and treating for invasive plant species by means of mechanical, chemical, and biological control methods
    • Performing routine trail maintenance in the Audubon Swamp Garden and other specified nature trails
    • Co-creating, updating, and maintaining ecological interpretive materials and displays
    • Assisting with the nuisance wildlife program, wildlife surveys, and wildlife monitoring programs
    • Assisting with the creation of and maintaining all wildlife food plots and pollinator plots
    • Ability to traverse various types of terrain for extended periods of time, often in cold and hot weather conditions and able to lift 50 pounds at a time

    Requirements

    Who you are:

    • You are wildly passionate about enhancing habitat for our native wildlife. You’ve got a degree in a relevant field such as but not limited to Biology, Ecology, or Wildlife & Fisheries and 1-2 years of experience (internships and volunteer work included) in habitat management. Experience with wetland management preferred!
    • You’ve got a strong knowledge of wetland systems and skills in identifying native flora and fauna found in the southeastern USA and are comfortable working long days in the field
    • You have strong verbal skills and can communicate ecological principles to the public
    • You are comfortable connecting with a wide variety of people, and do so by flexing your presentation style to meet the unique needs and backgrounds of the people you’re with
    • You’re tech savvy, and utilize technology to not just streamline and automate process, but to collect data to support decisions regarding the management of the properties natural resources
    • As Magnolia is a tourist attraction, this position may require long-days and/or work on the weekends as needed.
